Opportunities for Service
There are
several opportunities for you to serve here at Gethsemane.
Greeters, Host/Hostesses, Activity Time, Ushers and Acolytes are all
needed. Please check the wall outside the choir room for the sign
up sheets to volunteer your time.
ACOLYTES
The church will need Acolytes all year ‘round. Sign up is on the wall
outside the choir room. This is a very important role for the kids to share
in the life of the church.
CALLING ALL THOSE WITH A SONG IN THEIR HEART
I would like to extend an invitation to any and all interested in singing in
the Chancel Choir. No audition is required. Perhaps you sang in college or
are in high school and just like to sing. If you just enjoy singing but
don’t read music, you will not be alone. Several of our current choir
members love to sing, contribute greatly to the music ministry of the choir
and don’t read music. Either way we have a spot for you. We have a
particular need for male voices this year. If you would like to talk to me,
please feel free to call me at home.
We have an exciting year planned. So come join the fellowship, the ministry
and the joy of singing to the Lord. Rehearsals will start on August 25 and
continue every Wednesday from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Child care is available upon
request.
FIRST ANNUAL VALLEY FORGE PARK BLOCK PARTY
A group of Gethsemane members have formed “Pewaukee Neighborhood Connection”
to reach out to our neighbors in the community. “PNC” will have a block
party at Valley Forge Park, in Pewaukee, on Saturday, September 11th from
noon until 3:00pm. There will be food, soda, games and a lot of fun.
If you are interested in helping with setting up tents, tables, chairs,
serving food/soda or organizing the games for kids and adults, please sign
up on the board in the narthex. We are looking forward to a great afternoon
with our neighbors in Pewaukee.
Valley Forge Park is located just east of the church across Highway 16 with
the entrance off Morris Street. Any questions, please see Jeff Thiel or
Marty Tomcek.
VALLEY FORGE PARK BLOCK PARTY CHILDREN’S ACTIVITY VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are needed to help with the children’s duck pond, bean bag toss,
jewelry making table and face painting. There are prizes for the games,
simple beads for necklaces and paints for face painting. This is a great
opportunity for teens to earn community service time.
Everyone come and help for an hour or two because we need you!
See Denise Conrad for more information and sign up today!
HOPE CENTER MEAL PROGRAM
Gethsemane will be serving dinner and providing desserts at the Hope Center
on Wednesday, September 22 from 5-7pm. The sign up is now in place in the
narthex. Currently, about 80-150 children a month come for meals compared to
12-18 children a month in the past. A growing number of hungry people of all
ages in Waukesha County need our continuing help to have at least one good
meal a day.
CAN YOU BAKE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES AND BROWNIES?
The Pewaukee Neighborhood Connection (PNC) needs bakers to help provide
cookies and brownies for the Valley Forge Park Block Party on September
11th. See the sign up poster in the narthex for more details or see Denise
Conrad.
FOOD PANTRY HELP NEEDED
Donations to the Pewaukee Food Pantry are coming in slower than the food is
going out. We continue to get new families every week who have lost their
jobs or have had their hours cut. Would you please consider purchasing a few
extra items to donate to the pantry when you do your weekly shopping.
Donations can be put in the barrels at the Pewaukee Pick and Saves, taken to
any Pewaukee church, area businesses that have barrels or taken to the Food
Pantry on Wednesdays or Saturdays between 10 and 11am. The items which are
most needed at this time are: spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce/paste,
crackers/snacks, coffee and cold drinks, sugar, oil, mustard, potatoes
(boxed and canned), salad dressings and condiments including pickles,
olives, salt, pepper, etc. Monetary donations to purchase meat and items
which are not donated can be sent to the Pewaukee Food Pantry, PO Box 51,
Pewaukee, WI 53072.
Thank you for helping the Pewaukee Food Pantry serve the people in our
community who are in need. Judy Litvin and Karen Semrad, Pantry Coordinators

VISITS MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR SENIORS & THEIR CAREGIVERS
Do you have 2 - 4 hours a week to visit with a local senior so their
caregiver can take a break? Interfaith Senior Program’s non-medical respite
care volunteers offer companionship for those suffering from long-term
illness or disability. No medical or hands-on assistance is required, and
training is provided. Currently, volunteers are needed in Waukesha, New
Berlin, Oconomowoc and Sussex, but needs arise in other communities
frequently. Contact Becky Cooper at Interfaith at 262-549-3348, ext. 226 or
